Welcome!

The Gambling Helpline Forums is a place to discuss success coaching, stories and seminars. It is open to all - but registration is required to post.

Why should I register?
We want everybody to feel welcome, and we want to make these forums a community which is open to all. We do not want anonymous flamings and rants. If you plan to post messages for which you do not want to be responsible - well, these are the wrong forums for you.

You should register because we want to know who you are, and because you get to post, edit, subscribe and post private messages.

What kinds of topics are discussed here?
Basically, everything that falls within the labels above. We like to consider ourselves open minded, but we do not like to see commercials, arrogant comments, or flames.

How should I behave?
Be yourself. But please respect these ground rules:

  1. If you make strange claims, please provide proof.
  2. If you want to refute someone's claims, please stay calm and point out where you think they went wrong, and what kind of proof you base your own opinion on.
  3. Do not post links to other sites as proof of your claims without commenting what the relevant sites say and why they are important to the current discussion.
  4. Statements like "I just know that this is the way it is" (especially when religion is being discussed) are considered ignorant and might be deleted.
  5. If you ask for opinions, respect the replies you get.

Also, we will not accept racist, sexist, hateful, or derogatory posts. Such posts may be deleted or edited without further notice. Violations of these ground rules might lead to banning without further notice.

How do I avoid having my posts edited/deleted?
Try to stay on topic. Lurk around a bit before you start posting. It is generally a good idea to search the forums to see if what you want to discuss has been discussed before.

Avoid short, witty, off-topic remarks ("hit-and-run posts") in a thread were people are having a serious discussion. This is considered rude and offensive. Use the Watercooler forum for that kind of thing.

Also, rants, flames, arrogant posts, and hit-and-run posts might lead to temporary or permanent banning so please try to behave in here as you would in real life, and everyone will be happy.

Respond to requests from Mods and Admins
The moderators and administrators put a lot of time and effort into maintaining this site. If we send you an "official" private message or an e-mail, in which we obviously want your reply, we require that you respond. Failure to respond in such cases may force us to close your account.

How do I avoid normal argument fallacies?
Take our advice: If you post theories which are untestable, ideas which are obviously based on bad logic, arguments which appeal to faith but fail when faced with reason, you will meet opposition in these forums. This is not because we are unfriendly. It is because we want to learn, try theories, understand, and most of all, discuss.

Therefore, it is a good idea to put these links on your reading list - in fact, we kindly ask you to really do so. You may learn something (we did). Thanks to Freethinker for providing the links.
